Kaebel Leisure 3 min read August 6, 2026 Playground Installation

Over the past month we’ve had not one, but two planes from our themed range land safely in their new ‘hangar’s’, ready for kids to climb their way into the driver’s seat and take off up the runway!

For our team this marks a huge milestone. Countless hours of sketching, prototyping, and manufacturing have gone into creating these pieces, making it incredibly rewarding to see children finally getting to enjoy them.

The KaebelLand range began with a simple idea, to create a collection of themed equipment that combined the physical challenge of rope-based play with the storytelling and imagination of themed equipment.

After the success of custom projects like the Donnybrook Dinosaur and Googong Bunyip, we recognised an opportunity to develop a range that would make iconic, Australian-made themed play more accessible.

Rather than designing one-off centrepieces, we wanted to create products that architects, landscape designers and councils could confidently specify into projects while still delivering the memorable play experiences that turn playgrounds into local landmarks. After all, every town deserves a playground that has kids begging their parents to take them to the plane park!

The two aircraft featured below are the very first installations from our KaebelLand range (which officially launched in October 2025), making this an exciting first chapter in the range’s journey.

Positioned alongside the Toowoomba Aerodrome, Training Wings celebrates the area’s rich aviation history and creates a play experience that’s deeply connected to its surroundings.

From the outset, we wanted the look and feel to capture the timeless character of a 1930’s training plane. Drawing inspiration from the iconic North American T-6 (commonly used to train pilots in WW2) the design is reminiscent of planes found in the neighbouring aerodrome.

Working alongside the team at Urban Play, with complementary play equipment from Moduplay, the finished playground delivers opportunities for children of all ages and abilities. Alongside Training Wings, the space features accessible climbing experiences, Talk Tubes, an Eco Charging Station (because every aircraft and little adventurer needs to refuel), swings, and a runway-themed track that ties the entire aviation experience together.

Located only a short drive from Melbourne Airport, the theming of Sewell Reserve reflects its adjacency to the airport. The team at Merri-Bek Council had always envisioned an aeronautical theme for the refurbishment of the park, which of course made Flight KL001 the perfect fit for the space!

Modelled from a classic airliner, Flight KL001 stands at just shy of 3 metres tall, making it an epic adventure for little explorers, and the larger of the two planes.

As part of the project we were also able to supply complementary equipment for a range of ages and climbing abilities, including a canoe swing and ninja warrior climber.

Every great playground starts with a story. Whether it’s one of our KaebelLand creations or a completely custom design, our team can help turn your next project into a landmark play space kids will remember for years to come.
