The Australian Good Design Awards celebrate the very best in design and innovation, so it’s a huge honour to see Alto® recognised among this year’s winners.
From day one, our goal was to create a playground range that was as inclusive as it was adventurous. Every element has been carefully considered to encourage a wide variety of play experiences, embrace universal design principles, and maintain the open, custom look that makes Alto so unique.
So what sets Alto apart from other tower ranges?
Universal design
Universal design is all about creating spaces that are inclusive and usable by as many people as possible, without the need for adaptation. Throughout each design we’ve incorporated universal design principles to offer different ways for kids to engage, varying levels of challenge, and opportunities for both active and passive play.
Varying levels of challenge
Each Alto offers varying levels of challenge to suit a wide range of ages and abilities.
Ground-level play panels and pommels provide accessible play for younger children and those with limited mobility, while the combination of rope and rubber flooring introduces a progressive challenge with added stability.
Access is available via nets or tunnels, with options ranging from easier climbing for toddlers through to more challenging routes for confident climbers.
The pod provides a quieter hang-out space with gentle movement that offers vestibular stimulation, supports balance and body awareness, and introduces a controlled sense of risk and adventure.

Safety
All of our playground equipment, including the Alto range are certified in all formats to AS4685 playground equipment and surfacing.
To prevent any unwanted climbing on the outside of the sensory pods and tunnels, we’ve incorporated non-climb mesh, which allows us to keep users safe without detracting from the overall design and user experience.
And as part of the design and engineering process, each tower has been structurally engineered and extensively tested to suit all wind categories and types in alignment with Australian standards.
Made locally for Aussie playgrounds
Every piece of Kaebel Leisure equipment has been designed and manufactured right here in the Hunter Region, which means we are always designing with our Aussie customers at the forefront of our minds!
We’ve used durable materials that are able to withstand Australia’s diverse climates and conditions. Each design also includes the option to add a shade sail, providing a practical and budget-friendly solution for schools and councils looking to maximise sun safety and make their playgrounds more comfortable year-round.
We’re so proud of our team and grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey. You can find the Alto® range featured in the Product Design – Sport & Lifestyle category alongside a collection of this year’s winners.
